MOSCOW, December 31. /TASS/. Russia’s ombudsman for human rights, Konstantin Dolgov, has issued recommendation to the US and the EU to give up attempts to exert pressure on Russia’s judiciary system in the light of a sentence to Navalny brothers.
“In connection with the concern voiced by some officials in the US and EU over the sentence to Navalny brothers, who were charged with embezzlement, we’d like to recommend Washington and Brussels to give up the attempts to wield pressure on the Russian judiciary system and to politicize a purely criminal case,” Dolgov said in a commentary.
On Tuesday, Moscow City’s Zamovskoretsky district court issued a sentence to the brothers Alexey and Oleg Navalny in connection with embezzlement in the company Yves Rocher. Alexey received a suspended jail term of 3.5 years and Oleg, a term of 3.5 years in a general prison.
In addition, the brothers are expected to pay out 4 million rubles in a case of the Multifunctional Processing Company and fines of 500,000 rubles each.
