Crimea to file claims vs Ukraine for power supply disruption

Crimea is now suffering from power supply disruptions due to a deficit of power production in Ukraine caused by a lack of coal of necessary brands

SIMFEROPOL, December 25. /TASS/. The Crimean authorities plan to file claims against Ukraine for ceasing power supplies to the peninsula on Wednesday for two hours without any notifications, Crimea’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Polonsky told reporters on Thursday.

“Municipalities are calculating losses, we are receiving summary statistics. There are certainly burnt devices, damaged equipment,” he said.

He also said that Crimea paid for power supplies from Ukraine in full and on time. “Crimea has no debts for consumed electric power. We are fulfilling absolutely all obligations, make payments in full, that’s why there are no economic, legal or some other reasons to take such actions (cease of power supplies) against us,” Polonsky said.

Crimea, which became part of Russia in March and is still much dependent on power supplies from Ukraine, is now suffering from power supply disruptions due to a deficit of power production in Ukraine caused by a lack of coal of necessary brands.

At around 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Ukraine ceased power deliveries to Crimea without any notifications. Supplies were resumed around two hours later, while new rolling power cuts started after 7:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, almost 740,000 people in Crimea and Sevastopol were left without electric power supplies.

As of 11:35 a.m. Thursday power supplies to Crimea and Sevastopol were fully resumed, the Russian Energy Ministry said earlier.
