Russian army proves ability to solve complex tasks — Putin

The capabilities of the Russian army were demonstrated by a total of some 3,500 planned and surprise military drills held across the coutnry over this year, President Vladimir Putin said

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The Russian Armed Forces are capable of solving the most complex tasks, which was proved both by planned and surprise military drills held this year, President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

“Recent events proved that the Russian army gains a new image, becomes more up-to-date and is ready for implementing the most complex and responsible tasks,” Putin told the Russian Defense Ministry’s board meeting on Friday.

Putin said this ability was proved by a total of some 3,500 planned and surprise military drills held across Russia over this year.

Cooperation with CSTO

Russia will strengthen military cooperation with member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Putin said.

“On the whole, it is important to strengthen interaction with our CSTO allies and partners,” Putin went on to say.

He said that joint Russian-Belarusian operational exercises Union's Shield-2015 (Shchit Soyuza-2015), as well as the Center-2015 strategic command and staff exercises, would be held next year. Their aim is to drill ways of safeguarding security in the Central Asian region, which is vital for Russia.
