Russia’s military doctrine remains defensive — Putin

"Our military doctrine does not change, it is known to be of an exclusively defensive nature," Russian President Vladimir Putin said

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russia’s military doctrine remains defensive despite NATO’s increased activity in Eastern Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

“Nevertheless, our military doctrine does not change, it is known to be of an exclusively defensive nature, but we will defend our security in a consistent and tough manner,” Putin said at a meeting of the Defense Ministry board.

The head of state recalled that the situation around Russia is not becoming easier. “You know about the establishment of a US layered missile defense system; NATO’s activity also increased, including in Europe, first of all in Eastern Europe,” Putin said.

“Russia will as usual consistently defend its interests and sovereignty, will try to strengthen international security, speak for equal security for all states and peoples,” he said.
