MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Ukrainian female pilot Savchenko will be immediately set free if it turns out that she is innocent, but will be punished if her guilt will be ascertained, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an annual news conference on Thursday.

Reminding reporters about the death of Russian journalists in the south-east of Ukraine, the president said: “According to our law enforcement agencies, Savchenko was an artillery fire corrector in that murder”.

“If it turns out in the course of preliminary investigation and trial that she had nothing to do with that, that she is not guilty, she will be immediately set free,” the president pledged.

“It it turns out that she is guilty, that she did have a hand in that murder, I proceed from the fact that the Russian court will make a relevant decision, and she will serve her sentence in accordance with the court decision,” Putin warned in reply to a Ukrainian reporter’s query.
