GROZNY, December 4 /TASS/. The attackers of a traffic police checkpoint in Grozny could have acted on order from Western security services in the interests of the United States and NATO that want to weaken Russia both economically and politically, Dukuvakh Abdurakhmanov, the Chechen parliament speaker, told an emergency parliament meeting on Thursday.
The Chechen parliament resolutely condemned the terrorist act that occurred downtown Grozny in the early hours on Thursday.
“They have not succeeded and they will never succeed in their plans. The dreams of Obama and Merkel and their accomplices will never come true so long as Russian President Vladimir Putin and his closest ally and our national hero Ramzan Kadyrov, the president of Chechnya and the hero of Russia, defend Russia’s interests,” Abdurakhmanov said.
He added that he had personally driven the streets of Chechen capital Grozny to make sure that the city was living a normal life. People from various parts of Chechnya are streaming into Grozny to work and study. Shops and markets are opening, Abdurakhmanov went on to say. The speaker categorically denied reports that terrorists had achieved success in counteracting police.
“The fake videos that are being distributed in social networks were shot far away from Grozny and long before (the incident),” Abdurakhmanov added.
Early on Thursday, a group of unidentified gunmen in three cars, attacked a traffic police checkpoint in Grozny. After that, the terrorists sneaked into the local House of Press where the editorial offices of the republic’s newspapers, Internet publications and federal media outlets are located. Chechen law enforcers blocked the House of Press building and launched a security operation in central Grozny.
Seven militants were killed, the National Anti-Terror Committee said. According to Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, the terrorists had planned to stage major terrorist acts in Chechnya.
