Russia’s Justice Ministry puts 15th NGO on list of foreign agents

It turned out to be a charity organization Partnership for Development Association

MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. Russia’s Justice Ministry has put another, fifteenth organization on the list of non-commercial entities performing the function of foreign agents.

Last August a justice of the peace ruled that the Saratov-based regional charity organization Partnership for Development Association was acting in the capacity of a “foreign agent” and fined it 300,000 roubles for failing to apply for being included in the list of NGOs registered as foreign agents. Partnership for Development appealed this decision saying that it was entirely focused on ecological matters.

The law on NGOs operating as foreign agents was adopted in the summer of 2012. It obliges the NGO’s involved in political activities and getting financing from outside the country to obtain the status of foreign agents and be included in a special register.
