Putin greets Cuba’s former head Fidel Castro on 90th birthday

The Russian president expressed confidence the relations between two countries "will continue developing fruitfully, thus favoring improvement of the regional stability and security."

MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin greeted former head of Cuba, Fidel Castro, on his 90th birthday. Putin outlined his devotion to the Cuban people and Castro’s role in development of relations between two countries, the Kremlin’s press service said on Sunday.

"In Russia You are highly respected as an outstanding political figure, who devoted the life to the Cuban people," the telegram reads. "It is complicated to overestimate Your personal input in development of relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries."

On August 13, Fidel Castro, who was the Cuban leader between 1959 and 2011, turns 90.
