PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, October 29. /TASS/. The lava dome keeps growing on volcano Shiveluch in Russian Far East’s Kamchatka peninsula, as shown by data transmitted from seismic stations, the chief of the volcanic observatory in local settlement Klyuchi told TASS.

“Two strong ash discharges at an altitude from 9 to 9.5 kilometers above the sea level were registered on Shiveluch according to seismic and satellite data on Wednesday. This means that the lava dome keeps growing,” volcanic observatory’s head Yury Demyanchuk said.

Heavy snowfall continues in the area of the volcano that makes visual observations impossible, he said. However, seismic and satellite monitoring continues non-stop, reporting a new lava dome being 2,600 meters high above the sea level.

The volcano was earlier rated with orange code of high aviation hazard.

Shiveluch has made several ash discharges, four of them reaching from 7 to 11 kilometers above the sea level, for a day on September 24 last time.

Specialists are also monitoring non-stop volcanoes Klyuchevskoy and Bezymyanny which are not active yet.
