Russian diplomat estimates EU losses from Russia sanctions at €20 billion

Russia’s trade with the EU slightly contracted in 2014 whereas Moscow’s trade with the US increased

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. The European Union has lost €20 billion from sanctions against Moscow, Russia’s EU permanent representative Vladimir Chizhov said in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV Channel on Wednesday.

"As a whole, the European Union is sustaining considerable losses from its own sanctions," the envoy said. "Paradoxically, Russia’s trade with the European Union slightly contracted in 2014 whereas Moscow’s trade with the United States, which is spurring the sanctions spiral, on the contrary, increased," the envoy said.

"US exports to Russia, in general, increased by 20%, according to some data," the envoy said.
