Ukraine’s 2014 gas import from EU increases by 59% - Ukrstransgaz

KIEV, January 5. /TASS/. Ukraine increased its natural gas imports from European countries in 2014 by 59%, compared to 2013, up to 5.1 billion cubic metres, the press service of the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) operator Ukrtransgaz said on Monday.

“The increase in natural gas imports from Europe has been caused by the opening of the Slovak supply route,” the company said.

In 2014, a total of 3.6 billion cubic metres of natural gas were supplied to Ukraine from Slovakia, 0.9 cubic metres - from Poland and 0.6 billion cubic metres from Hungary.

According to Ukrtransgaz, 1 billion cubic metres of gas were imported from Europe in December 2014 to meet the Ukrainian consumer demand.
