Miller: Ukraine’s role in transit of Russian gas tends to zero with new pipeline to Turkey

Discussions about the role of Ukraine’s transit for the Russian supplies to Europe continue for over ten years, he said

MOSCOW, December 6. /TASS/. With construction of a new gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey, Ukraine’s role in transit of the Russian natural gas tends to zero, Gazprom’s CEO Alexey Miller said in an interview with the Vesti on Saturday television programme.

“We shall provide for the amounts of gas necessary for domestic consumption in Ukraine,” he said.

Discussions about the role of Ukraine’s transit for the Russian supplies to Europe continue for over ten years, he said.

“We have been speaking only about it lately. Negotiations, thus, continued for years and years. As you well remember, back in 2003, Vladimir Putin with (Gerhard) Schroeder and (Leonid) Kuchma signed an agreement on a trilateral consortium. Well, now it is ten years since […].”

“As for ourselves, we have made a final decision to have alternative routes: at first the North Stream, then the South Stream. But now (we have decided to implement) a new project - a sea pipeline across the Black Sea towards Turkey,” Gazprom’s head said.
