TEHRAN, September 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian companies Technopromexport, Inter RAO and its unit Inter RAO Export plan to take part in the construction and modernization of power plants and equipment supplies in Iran, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Tuesday at a meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian.

Novak said there was much progress in agreements between Technopromexport and Iran’s Tavanir over the construction of 8-10 thermal power units with a combined capacity of almost 3,000 megawatts and modernization of four units in Iran. “The companies will discuss commercial relations in the next few weeks,” the minister said.

Russia and Iran will also discuss increasing capacities to supply electric power from Russia to Iran, Chitchian said. The Russian delegation at the talks included a representative of the Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy Systems (FGC UES).

Novak also said that the Russian-Iranian energy cooperation was not affected by the US sanctions. “I think that these issues (the US sanctions and the Russian-Iranian cooperation) are not connected, as we have been cooperating for a long time and developing it with the help of interesting and mutually beneficial projects in the power industry, the oil and gas sector, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” Novak said.
