Five-year-old girl from Russia dies in a boat crash in Thailand

A boat with Russian tourists crashed into rocks at about 03:00 p.m. local time near the island of Maiton

BANGKOK, December 31. /TASS/. A five-year-old Russian woman died as a result of a boat collision with rocks in Thailand, Russian Consul General in Phuket Vladimir Sosnov told TASS.

"A 5-year-old girl died as a result of a boat colliding with rocks near the island of Maithon. Six Russian citizens received injuries of varying severity, there are light ones and severe ones. They are now receiving assistance. Two crew members, both citizens of Thailand, were also injured," he said.

A boat with Russian tourists crashed into rocks at about 03:00 p.m. local time (8:00 a.m. GMT) near the island of Maiton. There were only Russian tourists on the ship, who rented it for a boat trip. Russian diplomats provided consular assistance to the victims, who were taken to Phuket's Vachira and Bangkok hospitals.

The Island of Maithon is located 9 km from Phuket.
