Czech police put university shooting death toll at 14

According to the reports, 25 people were injured, including ten who are in critical condition

PRAGUE, December 22. /TASS/. At least 14 people were killed and 25 wounded in Thursday’s shooting at the Philosophy Department of the Charles University in Prague, the city’s Police Chief Martin Vondrasek has told reporters.

"I can confirm that 14 people perished as a result of this heinous crime," he said. "Moreover, 25 were injured, including ten who are in critical condition."

The Czech government declared the nationwide day of mourning on December 23, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said. A minute of silence will be observed at noon local time [11:00 a.m. GMT].

Czech President Petr Pavel described the shooting as "the most tragic accident of its kind in the history of the Czech Republic."

The shooter was identified as 24-year-old student David Kozak, who killed his father a few hours before the attack. He took his own life when police started an operation to neutralize him.
