Magnitude 5 earthquake registered off Azerbaijan in Caspian Sea, no damage in Baku

According to the Azerbaijani Emergencies Ministry, there have been no reports of damage or casualties

BAKU, December 7. /TASS/. The epicenter of a magnitude 5 earthquake in Azerbaijan was in the Caspian Sea, with tremors being felt in Baku and other Azerbaijani cities, the country’s seismic service reported.

Initially, the Republican Seismic Survey Center said the quake rocked Baku.

According to the Azerbaijani Emergencies Ministry, there have been no reports of damage or casualties, even though tremors were felt in and outside of the capital, Baku.

In turn, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported a 5.7 magnitude earthquake in the Caspian Sea, with its epicenter 62 km northwest of the Azerbaijani city of Sumgait with a population of some 265,000 inhabitants. The NGO put the epicenter at a depth of 27 km.
