Search for unidentified, heavily armed group underway in Abkhazia’s mountains

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Robert Kiut said that seven armed people without any identification marks were seen near the village of Azanta in the Gulrypshsky district

SUKHUM, November 8. /TASS/. Hunters have spotted seven heavily armed people in the Caucasus mountains in Abkhazia, and law enforcement officers are searching for them, Abkhaz Interior Minister Robert Kiut told TASS.

"Local hunters spotted seven armed people without any insignia outside the village of Azanta in the Gulripsh district. They were armed with foreign weapons, supposedly M-4 automatic rifles, and wearing black uniforms, masks and helmets. They were heavily armed. Also, they had a drone which was flying over the area," the minister said.

"We are looking into who they are, where they are from, and what this is all about. All roads to Sukhum have been sealed off. We will take measures if they break through somewhere," Kiut said.
