Death toll in Pakistani mosque blast grows to 32 — TV

Authorities in Peshawar have declared a medical emergency in all hospitals in the city, and have ordered rescue agencies to step up their relief efforts

ISLAMABAD, January 30./TASS/. At least 32 people were killed and 147 were wounded in an explosion at a mosque in the city of Peshawar, not far from Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, the Geo TV channel reported on Monday referring to national security officials.

According to them, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device during the noon prayer at the mosque where a lot of people had gathered, with military and police officers among them. A rescue operation continues at the site, so the figure of fatalities may grow. Up to 500 people could have been inside at the time of the explosion.

Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (the Pakistani Taliban), a group outlawed in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack, the TV channel reported.
