MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained members of a terrorist cell in Russia’s Far Eastern Primorsky Region who planned attacks against businesspeople and were going to travel to Syria to take part in hostilities there. The FSB Public Relations Center informed TASS that the group included four citizens of Central Asian countries who financed international terror groups.

"[The FSB] foiled the activities of a cell of the Jamaat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad terror group, which operated in Primorsky Region," the Public Relations Center said. "The detained individuals were going to carry out a series of armed assaults against businesspeople and travel to Syria to take part in hostilities fighting alongside an international terror group."

According to the Public Relations Center, FSB officers seized components for making explosives, a Makarov traumatic pistol converted for the use of live ammunition and munitions for it, religious and extremist literature, videos promoting the activities of the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) and communication equipment used for maintaining contacts with foreign emissaries.

The issue of opening a criminal case is being resolved. "Measures aimed at establishing the detainees’ involvement in criminal activities are being taken," the FSB added.
