Nine people escape from custody in southern Siberia

Police in Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk Region have launched a search operation

KRASNOYARSK, April 14. /TASS/. Nine persons who had been placed into custody in a pre-trial detention center in southern Siberia’s Tyva Republic have escaped, the Interior Ministry’s regional branch said.

"On April 14, nine individuals escaped from the Interior Ministry's pre-trial detention facility Barun-Khemechiksy. During the escape, one officer on duty was wounded," it said.

Police in Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk Region have launched a search operation.

Four out of nine individuals had been convicted and were about to be sent to a prison, the ministry’s municipal department said. Their charges ranged from assault, inflicting serious harm to health to robbery. They were convicted to between four and seven years in jail.

Five other men had been detained on suspicion of murder, inflicting serious harm to health, robbery, assault and violating traffic rules, which resulted in serious injuries.
