Death toll in Brazil's mine collapse rises to 115

Spokesperson for the Minas Gerais state Flavio Godinho said 248 people remain missing

RIO DE JANEIRO, February 2. /TASS/. The death toll in the mining dam collapse in Brazil's south-east has risen to 115, spokesperson for the Minas Gerais state Flavio Godinho told a press conference on Friday.

"The death toll currently stands at 115. The identities of 71 of them have been established," Godinho said. Earlier reports said 110 people died in the incident.

Godinho reminded that 248 people remain missing. The search and rescue operation continues on the site of the tragedy, but authorities say there is little chance any survivors will be found.

On January 25, a dam collapsed at an iron-ore mine in Brumandinho in Brazil's south-eastern Minas Gerais state. Residents of affected areas were evacuated, and several buildings were destroyed by mud flows. The state's authorities announced a three-day mourning over the tragedy.
