Russian senator detained during Federation Council hearing — source

Arashukov is charged with several crimes, including the organization of a criminal gang and participation in it

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Senator for the Karachay-Circassian Region Rauf Arashukov was detained in a session hall of the Federation Council on Wednesday, a source that attended the upper chamber’s session told TASS.

"The agreement was given for detaining and frisking senator for the Karachay-Circassian Region Arashukov. He was detained and taken away from the hall," the source said.

Arashukov is charged with several crimes, including the organization of a criminal gang and participation in it, the source added.

Before the detention of the 32-year-old parliamentary member, the plenary session of the Federation Council had been closed for the media, and the entry to the session hall was blocked by officers of the Russian Federal Guard Service.

Arashukov became senator on September 18, 2016.
