The latest reports put the death toll at ten

SIMFEROPOL, January 21. /TASS/. The fire that broke out onboard two ships near the Kerch Strait might have been caused by violation of safety rules, a source in the local emergencies services told TASS on Monday.

"According to preliminary data, it might have been violation of safety rules while pumping fuel from one ship to another," the source said.

According to earlier reports, a fire broke out onboard two vessels near the Kerch Strait off Russia’s territorial waters. One of them, the Candy, had a crew of 17, including nine Turkish citizens and eight Indian nationals. The other one, the Maestro, had a crew of 14 (seven Turkish and seven Indian citizens).

The latest reports put the death toll at ten. Fourteen people have bee rescued, seven more are still missing.
