Death toll in gas blast at residential building in Russia's south grows to 2

Three people remain missing after the gas blast while rescuers continue working on the site

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Rescuers have found a woman's body when clearing the rubble at the site of a gas blast at an apartment complex in the town of Shakhty in the southern Russian Rostov Region, the Russian Emergencies Ministry told TASS on Tuesday.

"The death toll climbed to two. A woman's body was found," the ministry said.

Three people remain missing after the gas blast while rescuers continue working on the site.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry, a gas blast took place on January 15 on the ninth floor of a residential building in the city of Shakhty, Rostov Region. Four apartments have been damaged as a result of the blast, on the ninth and eighth floors. There are 72 apartments in the building in total.

Seven people were rescued from under the rubble, including a child. A total of 140 people were evacuated from the building.

A criminal case has been opened over the incident.
