Seven killed, 46 injured as high-speed train crashes in Turkey

The death toll has climbed to seven

MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. At least seven people were killed and another 46 were wounded when a high-speed train crashed in Ankara on Thursday, according to the governor’s statement.

The train, en route from Ankara to Konya, crashed into a maintenance locomotive when approaching the Marsandiz station.

"According to the latest data, seven people were killed, including the train operator. Forty-six our citizens were injured, and three of them are in serious condition. Those injured have been sent to Ankara’s hospitals," the statement said.

After the crash several carriages overturned, and another two carriages collided with an overpass, which later collapsed. Ankara’s prosecutors have launched an investigation into the accident. Emergency services are working at the scene.
