Female suicide bomber in Chechnya’s capital identified, investigators say

GROZNY, November 18. /TASS/. Investigators have identified a woman who blew herself up near a police checkpoint on the outskirts of Chechnya’s capital Grozny on Saturday, the Investigative Committee’s regional branch said.

"She has been identified," a spokesperson said.

The woman was 25 years old, she said, declining to reveal her name as the investigation was ongoing with the aim to find potential accomplices.

A law enforcement source told TASS that the female suicide bomber’s name was Karina Spiridonova. She was a resident of the Adygeya Republic, in the North Caucasus, and was registered in the Chelyabinsk Region, but resided in Dagestan.

Chechnya’s Interior Ministry said a young woman detonated her suicide belt near a police checkpoint in Grozny’s Staropromyslovsky district on Saturday. The police officers noticed her wearing a suicide belt and at that moment they fired a warning shot. Neither law enforcement personnel nor civilians were hurt in the attack.
