UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against CSKA after match with Italy’s Roma in Moscow

The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on November 22

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has initiated disciplinary proceeding against Russian football club CSKA Moscow following the Champions League match against Italy’s Roma FC in the Russian capital on November 7.

The second-leg group stage match between Roma and CSKA was played at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium in the Russian capital on Wednesday night and ended with the Italian club’s 2-1 win over the hosts.

"Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League group stage match between PFC CSKA Moskva and AS Roma (1-2), played on 7 November in Russia," the European governing football body announced in a statement on Thursday.

The UEFA announced in its statement that the disciplinary proceedings against CSKA Moscow FC were launched on charges of "stairways blocked," as well as "throwing of objects" and "setting off of fireworks."

"The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 22 November," the statement added.

In its previous three Group G matches of the UEFA Champions League, CSKA Moscow FC drew 2-2 with Viktoria Plzen on September 19, defeated Real Madrid 1-0 on October 2 and lost to Roma 0-3 on October 23.

The Moscow police reported on Wednesday that before the match’s kick-off several dozens of CSKA fans attempted to attack Roma FC supporters. Several hooligans flying the colors of the Russian football club were detained by police as a result of the assault.

A police source told TASS earlier in the day that Three Italian nationals have been reported to be injured on Wednesday night in clashes in Moscow between Roma FC and Russia’s CSKA FC football fans.

The source said that the participating parties in the brawl between the Russian and Italian football clubs’ fans resorted to tear gas and metal rods adding that a total of 60 people were reported to be involved with 40 of them coming from Italy.
