MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. The distress call from Canadian hikers in the Olyutor District of the Kamchatka territory picked on Friday was unintentional, the regional office of the Emergencies Ministry has told TASS.

"The hikers have contacted us. They are well. They also explained that the distress message was wrong and unintentional. They keep enjoying the local wildlife," the office said.

The Olyutor District where the group of hikers is staying takes up the northeastern part of the Kamchatka Territory. The mostly mountain area is more than 74,000 square kilometers. On a vast territory there are just seven villages with a total population of 3,800. No railways or automobile roads connect the communities.
