Plane makes emergency landing in Rostov-on-Don after woman gives birth mid-flight

There turned out to be medics on board the plane, who agreed to help the crew perform the delivery

ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 8. /TASS/. A passenger plane owned by the Rossiya air company en route from Simferopol to St. Petersburg made an emergency landing at the Rostov-on-Don airport after a woman had given birth to a premature baby boy, a spokesperson for the airliner told TASS.

"During the SU6888 flight of the Rossiya air company from Simferopol to St. Petersburg a passenger complained of some ailment. It emerged later that she felt unwell because of the started labor. There turned out to be medics on board the plane, who agreed to help the crew perform the delivery… The delivery was successful, a boy was born, <...> and the crew decided to make an emergency landing at the Rostov-on-Don city airport," the spokesperson said.

The plane made an emergency landing at the Rostov-on-Don airport at 13:50, she said. "The passenger and the baby were hospitalized," the source said.

The airport’s press service told TASS that the mother and the baby are in satisfactory condition. "The flight will continue after refueling," the spokesperson added.
