Nornickel metallurgical asset’s average age to be around 20 years

KRASNOYARSK, April 13. /TASS/. By modernizing the enterprises, the Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) will bring an average age of Russian metallurgical plants to 20 years, the company’s Vice President Elena Bezdenezhnykh told the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum, adding an average age of Chinese metallurgical plants is 30-50 years, of American plants - 35-40 years.

"After we have done the modernization, we shall be reasonably proud as not only our own enterprise, but the country’s position in it (age of metallurgical assets - TASS) will improve to the level of under 20 years," she said.

"Good modernization is not typical for metallurgical assets in the world," she continued. "Our position is - Norilsk Nickel after the modernization, which we have in plans to 2023, will be also a leader in age changes of main metallurgical assets."

The company earlier announced it would invest about 1 trillion rubles ($16.1 billion) in modernization of its enterprises and organization of new jobs. The program’s results will be a 50% growth of ore production and about 100% growth of enriching. Thus, Nornickel’s assets will become most modern and biggest in the world.
