Shale gas reserves on Taimyr bigger than in Western Siberia — regional official

An official says promising reserves of shale gas in Taimyr’s western areas are bigger than the reserves in Western Siberia

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Promising reserves of shale gas in Taimyr’s western areas (north of the Krasnoyarsk Region) are bigger than the reserves in Western Siberia, the Central Siberian District’s Head of Subsoil Use Department Yuri Filiptsov told the Northern Forum on Thursday.

"Here (in Taimyr’s west), shale gas will be developed without doubt, even in bigger amounts than Western Siberia," he said.

Russia’s most fuel shale gas is in Western Siberia. The area there is about 1 million square kilometers. The hydrocarbon reserves there are difficult to extract.
