MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Losses of owners of cryptocurrency from theft in the world market associated with cryptocurrencies (direct theft or fraudulent ICO) amounted to $1.36 bln since early 2018, Director of the Russian Central Bank Financial Technology, Projects and Process Management Department Alisa Melnikova said on Tuesday.

"Since the beginning of 2018, 22 large fraudulent schemes using digital financial assets and cryptocurrencies have been committed worldwide, around $1.36 bln in cryptocurrency, or $23 mln per day, was stolen. In January alone, more than $420 mln were withdrawn from the CoinCheck exchange," Melnikova said, referring to the statistics available to the Central Bank.

At the end of January, one of the largest crypto-exchange exchanges in Japan, Coincheck, lost 500 mln of the cryptocurrency exchange's NEM coins - around $420 mln. The company said that the volume was withdrawn from the wallet illegally.
