MOSCOW, April 5. /TASS/. A project of the Yenisei economic zone, preparations for the 2019 Universiade, due in Krasnoyarsk, and ecology-related issues would be on agenda of the XV Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum, which opens on April 12, the Krasnoyarsk Region’s Acting Governor Alexander Uss told a news conference at TASS on Thursday.
"We consider it possible to make a special discussion at the forum, which would be devoted to the Yenisei Siberia project," he said. "Top officials from Tuva, Khakassiya, and the Krasnoyarsk Region have presented to the president an initiative to organize a special marco-regional program."
"At the forum, we shall organize a detailed discussion of organizational mechanisms, a possible system to manage the project, and new stimulating mechanism," he added.
Governor Alexander Uss initiated the Yenisei economic zone’s project in December, 2017. At the signing of a memorandum on cooperation with major industrial companies, he suggested organizing a working group, which would work on organizational, legal and economic conditions for effective economic development of the Krasnoyarsk Region, Khakassiya and Tuva. Those three regions used to be a single economic space, the governor said.
The forum participants will also discuss Krasnoyarsk’s preparations for hosting the Winter Universiade, due there in March, 2019, as well as issues related to solving the regional ecology problems. All those topics were discussed during a visit of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Krasnoyarsk in March, the official said.
The forum in Krasnoyarsk will host a general assembly of the Northern Forum - the biggest international non-governmental organization, which unites northern regions’ governors. The Northern Forum is an observer at the Arctic Council and has a consultations status at the UN ECOSOC. The organization unites Russia’s regions (Krasnoyarsk, Chukotka, Khanty-Mansi, Yugra, Sakha (Yakutia), Yamalo-Nenets, Magadan, Maritime, Kamchatka) and northern territories of Iceland, the US, the Republic of Korea, and Finland.
According to the Krasnoyarsk Region’s acting governor, the event’s participants will discuss a joint project of Norilsk Nickel and Russian Platinum to develop further an ore deposit on Taimyr. "During President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Krasnoyarsk, Nornickel and Russian Platinum signed an agreement; and we expect that within next five years there will be a new enterprise, comparable with Nornickel in the tax potential, which means a lot to us," he said, adding the joint venture would use the latest technologies.
The general assembly’s meeting will be devoted to living conditions and interests of the North’s low-numbered indigenous peoples, he told the news conference.
Organizers of the XV Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum have registered 5,000 guests from Russia’s 50 regions and from 22 countries.
In 2018, the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum will work from April 12 to April 14. Its main topic is dubbed "Russia 2018 - 2024: Implementing the Potential." TASS is the event’s strategic information partner.
