North’s social businesses to meet every year

The first forum of experts and businesses was held in Russia's Norilsk on November 22-23

KRASNOYARSK, November 24. /TASS/. The North’s social businesses will have their meetings every year at territories of Nornickel’s presence, the company’s Head of Charity Programs Department Igor Sukhotin told reporters on Friday.

The first form of experts and businesses, involved in social entrepreneurship, was organized in Norilsk on November 22-23. "It is our first expert platform on social entrepreneurship. <…> The meeting will be annual, and we plan to organize the next event in the Murmansk region - also a territory of our presence," he said.

The topic of social entrepreneurship has been for the recent four years on Nornickel’s program dubbed the World of New Opportunities, he added.

"I believe, over this time, we have gained sufficient material to discuss," he continued. "We have projects, active people, a club of social businesses. It is time to bring here social businesses and experts from other regions so that to understand how social entrepreneurship develops there, how the social businesses in Norilsk look on the big map of Russia’s social entrepreneurship, and how to move further on."

According to Director of the Gladway foundation for development of media projects and social programs Vladimir Vainer, a forum of the kind is the first experience in bringing to one platform those, who are involved in social entrepreneurship in the Northern territories. "Social entrepreneurship is different from regular businesses, and at the meeting it would be important to agree an approach to this phenomenon. Besides, it is also important to see best experiences, including from the point of view of possible problems and found solutions there. Perhaps, a meeting could result in a collection of best social practices by the North’s entrepreneurs," he said.

Nornickel is the world’s biggest producer of nickel and palladium and a major world producer of platinum and copper. The company produces also cobalt, silver, gold, iridium, ruthenium, selenium, tellurium and sulfur. The corporation explores, produces, refines and processes minerals, and produces and sells nonferrous and precious metals.
