BERLIN, November 23. /TASS/. The European Commission has no grounds to extend norms of the Third Energy Package to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, Chairman of Gazprom Board of Directors Viktor Zubkov said on Thursday.
"It is difficult to predict action of the European Commission but we believe so far it is not covered by the Third Energy Package with all consequences ensuing from that," Zubkov said.
"Germany always holds proper position on this issue," the top manager said. "Germany understands this is the most reliable and standing stream that can provide all the required resources," Zubkov noted.
The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is expected to come into service at the end of 2019. The pipeline is set to run from the Russian coast along the Baltic Sea bed to the German shore. Each of the pipeline’s two lines will have a capacity of 27.5 bln cubic meters. The new pipeline that is expected to connect the Russian resource base with European customers, will double the capacity of the first line and will basically follow its route.
