Northern Fleet delivers to Arctic island 900 tonnes of goods for winter

The vessel has also brought to the island 86 20-tonne containers to take onboard the scrap metal

MURMANSK, September 3. /TASS/. Russia’s Northern Fleet delivered more than 200 tonnes of food and goods, as well as 700 tonnes of construction materials to the Kotelny Island (the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago) as a part of winter supplies, the Fleet’s press service said on Sunday.

"The Kapitan Danilkin vessel of the Murmansk marine shipping company, acting in the interests of the Northern Fleet, has delivered winter supplies to Kotenly," the press service said. "Unloading is under way."

The vessel has brought to the island 86 20-tonne containers to take onboard the scrap metal, which the Fleet’s ecology platoon had collected on the island for further processing on mainland. During the current season, the navy collected and pressed more than 15,000 200-liter barrels from oil products. The vessel will bring the metal to the mainland on the return voyage.

More than 800 tonnes of scrap metal will be evacuated from the island before winter.
