Antarctic expedition experience can be used in Arctic — expert

The idea of using the format of a major international expedition in the Arctic was put forward by Swedish scientist, businessman, philanthropist and traveler Frederik Paulsen

ST. PETERSBURG, May 17. /TASS/. The experience of the Antarctic circumpolar expedition that brought together 140 scientists from 30 countries can be used in the Arctic, said Alexander Makarov, deputy head of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of the Russian Federal Hydrometeorological Service.
"The idea of using the format of a major international expedition in the Arctic was put forward by Swedish scientist, businessman, philanthropist and traveler Frederik Paulsen," Makarov said. "He supported the international expedition that worked in Antarctica between December 2016 and February 2017."
The Antarctic circumpolar expedition on board the Akademik Treshnikov research vessel explored 10 out of 13 Antarctic islands, as well as South Pole waters, glaciers, air and fauna.
