BEIJING, March 10. /TASS/. Governor of China’s southernmost province Hainan Liu Cigui has announced plans to increase the number of flights and create new air routes to Russia to attract tourists.
"Mostly tourists from Russia come to the island. In order to increase the tourist flow from Russia last year we opened 12 new routes and this year new flights have been launched to Novosibirsk and Vladivostok. In the future, the number of new air routes will grow," the governor said, according to the China Radio International (CRI).
In 2011, some 228,000 Russians visited the Hainan Island. The number of tourists from Russia dropped from 192,000 in 2012 to 125,000 in 2013, 93,000 in 2014 and 40,000 in 2015. Last year, 87,000 Russians visited the island.
