Tajikistan citizens working in Russia transfer $1.9 bln to home country in 2016

The amount of their money transfers to Tajikistan was $1.9 bln in 2016, corresponding to one third of the republic's GDP, Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov said

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Tajikistan citizens working in Russia transferred $1.9 bln or one third of Tajikistan’s GDP to the home country, Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Over 870,000 Tajikistan citizens are working in Russia. The amount of their money transfers to the motherland was $1.9 bln in 2016, corresponding to one third of the republican GDP. The intergovernmental cooperation in this sphere is aimed at supporting lawful rights and interests of this category of persons and their compliance with current norms of Russian laws in full scope," Ushakov said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Tajikistan on February 27, Ushakov said. "It is expected heads of states will review in detail current issues and promising areas of trade and economic cooperation," he added.
