European Commission may get access to all EU gas supply contracts — source

This is believed to be an indirect discrimination measure against Gazprom which will fall under this standard in the first instance, the source claims

BRUSSELS, December 9. /TASS/. The norm of the European Commission having access to gas supply contracts may be incorporated into the EU regulation of gas supplies security, a EC source familiar with the text of the document told TASS on Friday.

"It is planned to incorporate a norm of the opportunity for the EC to have access to commercial contracts (in a case an external supplies and its affiliates accounts for more than 40% of gas consumption in any individual EU country) into the EU regulation of gas supplies security," the source said.

This criterion is an indirect discrimination measure against Russian gas holding Gazprom that will fall under this standard in the first instance, the source said.

In February 2016 the European Commission released a new package of documents in the energy security sphere that contemplates taking a decision on mandatory coordination of intergovernmental agreements of EU member-states with third countries already at the negotiation stage, the source added.
