Kiev court postpones hearing into case of Ukraine’s $3.4 bln claim to Gazprom

KIEV, November 21. /TASS/. The economic court of Kiev has postponed the hearing in case of Ukraine’s $3.4 bln claim to Russian gas giant Gazprom until December 5, the court’s judge Oksana Marchenko said on Monday.

"The court finds it necessary to postpone the consideration of the case until December 5, 2016," the judge said.

She added that Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee (UAMC) will be studying additional documents submitted by the representatives of Gazprom.

On Monday, the defense submitted several petitions to the court. In particular, in one of their lawyers asked the court to ensure that the proceedings are held behind the closed doors because some trade secrets may be disclosed during the trial. In addition, the defense asked the court to initiate an economic expertise of the decision the UAMC had taken earlier, as well as to appoint a panel of judges to hear the case. All the applications, including those one were rejected.

"The decision (of the UAMC - TASS) was biased and did not take into account all the circumstances," the lawyers said in court. They also stressed that they do not see what the cases of abuse by Gazprom were, as the company is working with the Ukrainian party on the basis of the signed contract.
