MANAGUA, October 23. /TASS/. Russia’s ministry of health plans to expand cooperation with Central and Latin American countries in the area of production of vaccines and build a vaccine plant in Ecuador, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova said on Sunday.

"There are such plans. Our colleagues offer options for vaccine production branches in Central America. Ecuador was the next country to make such offer. It might be followed by others," she said, adding that along with joint production of vaccines it is planned to cooperate in research and development.

On Saturday, Nicaragua’s first facility for the production of Russian vaccines was launched in Managua. The plant is expected to turn out seasonal flu vaccines as the region has a deficit of 150 million doses of such vaccines. The plant in Nicaragua is expected to produce about 30 million doses of anti-flu vaccines by the end of the current year. One million doses will be enough to meet Nicaragua’s demand, the rest will go to other countries of Central Amercia.
