Chinese tourists spend $60 billion in five days of vacation

BEIJING, October 6. /TASS/. Chinese tourists have spent $60 billion on vacation trips in the first five days of the holiday dedicated to the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Thursday.

CCTV noted that the holiday is not over yet, and the final sum might be much greater. In the first five days of October, 589 million people travelled in China and other six million went abroad. "The most popular destinations this year are South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, the United States, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Maldives and Russia," China’s biggest tour operator, Ctrip, said in a report.

"Chinese tourists prefer to visit other countries as part of groups. They choose the program of sightseeing already at the spot," the tour operator noted.

In 2015, the revenue of the Chinese sphere of international tourism reached $114 billion, placing the country on the second place in the world, leaving Spain behind. Last year, around 128 million Chinese citizens went abroad and spent around $292 billion.
