Russia’s Energy Ministry expects coal export to rise in 2017

MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. Russia’s Energy Ministry projects a rise of the country’s coal exports in 2017, Head of the Ministry’s Department of coal mining and peat industry Sergey Mochalnikov told TASS Tuesday, adding that this year Russia’s coal exports are expected at the level of 160 mln tonnes.

"We expect [coal export at - TASS] 160 mln tonnes this year and hope that next year it will rise," he said when asked a corresponding question.

According to Mochalnikov, the ministry keeps its coal output forecast for this year at 390 mln tonnes.

As was reported in June Russia may boost its coal export by 6% to 165 mln tonnes versus 2015 (156 mln tonnes).

According to the Economic Development Ministry’s forecast approved by the government, Russia will produce 375 mln tonnes in 2016. Domestic consumption is expected at 200 mln tonnes, export will stand at 158 mln tonnes, the ministry says.
