KIEV, September 5. /TASS/. Ukraine will meet the request of Russia’s gas giant Gazprom to increase gas transit to Europe by 20%, the press service of the Ukrainian state holding Naftogaz of Ukraine reported on Monday.
"Gazprom increased its request for gas transfer to Europe by 20%. The declared volume of transit is 282 million cubic meters per day. The level of the increase in the application is several times higher than it is stipulated by the contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Russian company. Despite this, Ukraine will fulfill this request in full," the press-service reported.
According to Naftogaz, the increase in applications was related to "the repair of OPAL pipeline, which connects the Nord Stream gas pipeline with gas transportation systems in Germany and Central Europe."
In January-August, 50.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas were supplied from Russia to the EU through the gas transportation system of Ukraine, which is 19% up year-on-year.
