Russian energy minister, OPEC chief to discuss oil output freeze on Sep 26-28

The International Energy Forum will be held in late September in Algeria, where the countries - exporters of oil are going to negotiate freezing of oil production

VIENNA, August 26. /TASS/. Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak and OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo might hold a meeting at the International Energy Forum in Algiers in Algiers on September 26-28, Russia's permanent representative to OPEC Vladimir Voronkov told TASS on Friday.

"We agreed on the direct contacts between Burkindo and Novak in the near future, it will take place during the International Energy Forum in Algiers on September 26-28," Voronkov said.

According to the diplomat, during the meeting the secretary general passed a letter to Novak, which contained a proposal "to preserve and enhance the level of cooperation between the parties, in particular through dialogue coordinators and expert meetings."

"It was received positively," Voronkov said. "OPEC also noted a great and useful work on preparation of the meetings on freezing oil production level and confirmed the relevance of the work on this issue," he added.

According to Voronkov, OPEC and Russia consider the issue of freezing oil production timely.

"This is a timely issue and is it being discussed. During the next meetings the issue will also be discussed," he said.

The International Energy Forum will be held in late September in Algeria, where the countries - exporters of oil are going to negotiate freezing of oil production. Venezuela, Ecuador and Kuwait are initiators of the discussion. Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran have already confirmed their participation in private talks.
