Putin, Modi to participate in Kudankulam NPP first unit inauguration ceremony on August 10

Russian President and Indian Prime Minister will take part in the ceremony via videoconference

MOSCOW, August 5. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will take part via videoconference in the ceremony dedicated to handover of the first power unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant (NPP) to the Indian side, which was built with participation of Russian specialists, president’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on Friday.

"The videoconference of Russian President and Prime Minister of India related to inauguration of the first unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant will take place on August 10," Ushakov said. "Leaders of both nations will hail the fact of plant’s first unit opening during this videoconference," he added.

Russia and India are cooperating in the nuclear energy sphere for many years. The first unit of the Indian nuclear power plant is already in service. India’s regulator is currently expected to authorize start of the second power unit at Kudankulam NPP.
