Deflation of 0.1% recorded in Russia first time in 2016

Inflation declined to 7.1% on an annualized basis as of August 1

MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. Deflation of 0.1% was registered in Russia from July 26 to August 1 for the first time this year, the Federal State Statistics Service Rosstat said on Wednesday. Consumer prices grew 0.6% from the beginning of July and 4% from the year beginning, Rosstat reports.

Inflation declined to 7.1% on an annualized basis as of August 1, the statistical service said.

Fruit and vegetable prices declined 3% on average overt the week. Fresh tomatoes prices fell 8.4%. Fresh cucumbers prices declined 7.4%. Prices went down for cabbage by 4.4%, potatoes by 3.9%, and carrots by 3.2%. Mutton, sausages, fish, flour and millet prices declined 0.1%.

At the same time, prices hiked by 1% for granulated sugar, 0.6% for buckwheat, 0.3% for butter and 0.2% for poultry and sour cream.

Gasoline prices rose 0.1%. Diesel fuel prices declined 0.1% in the reporting period, Rosstat says.
