Egypt's airports inspection to take place after security requirements fulfilled — ministry

The visit date of Russian specialists for completion of the security audit of Egyptian airports is not yet fixed

MOSCOW, July 20. /TASS/. The visit date of Russian specialists for completion of the security audit of Egyptian airports has not yet been fixed and depends on fulfillment of security requirements, a representative of the Russian Transport Ministry told TASS on Wednesday.

"The date of the next inspection is not known currently. Everything depends on the pace of the Egyptian side to fulfil airfield security requirements presented by Russian specialists," he said.

Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov met Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy earlier this week. The parties agreed to develop an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the civil aviation security sphere.

Russia suspended air service with Egypt following the crash of a Russian A321 passenger jet in Sinai. The jet owned by Russia’s Kogalymavia air carrier (flight 9268) bound to St. Petersburg crashed on October 31 some 30 minutes after the takeoff from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh. It fell down 100 kilometers south of the administrative center of North Sinai Governorate, the city of Al-Arish. The plane was carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members. None survived.
