Rosgeo starts prospecting new diamond fields in Murmansk Region

Conclusions will be presented after completion of work at the turn of 2017

ST. PETERSBURG, July 8. /TASS/. Geologists initiate prospecting of diamond deposits in Murmansk Region using maps prepared according to findings of comprehensive studies, the Russian geological holding Rosgeo said on Friday.

"Rosgeo starts the summer field work season to prospect for primary diamond fields within Pulongskaya Area in Murmansk Region. Interpretation of data acquired during field geological and geophysical work in March - April of this year made possible to evaluate prospects of local magnetic anomalies in respect of kimberlite bodies identification," press service of Rosgeo’s Northwest geological performance unit said.

New data were acquired during the review of onshore magnetic exploration findings, company’s representative said.

"It’s premature to speak about prospects of findings such targets and about commercial mining accordingly. Conclusions will be presented after completion of work at the turn of 2017. In any case, geological exploration of Murmansk Region’s territory will contribute to regional business operations planning and growth in various economic sectors there," Adviser to Rosgeo CEO Anton Sergeev told TASS.
